Fab Friday 5

Five smiles this week:

1. Mom invited me out with her and dad to the newest Italian restaurant in town. It’s a small town, so when there’s a new restaurant everybody and everybody has to try it out.

2. Still on summer hours, which means that we close the office at 3pm on Friday!

3. Got a couple of great movies in the mail this week from my Blockbuster on-line membership: Cry Baby (with a very young Johnny Depp), In Her Shoes (with Cameron Diaz and Shirley Maclaine) and Because I Said So (with Diane Keaton and Mandy Moore).

4. Packages. With books in them! Received Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (Ann Brashers), Fourplay (Jane Moore) and To Kill a Mockingbird (Harper Lee) in the mail from my book swap friends.

5. I am picking up the kids from the airport tomorrow. They have been at daddy’s in Vegas for the month.

Satisfied Saturday 6

My top Six reasons to wake up in the morning for this week:

1. This picture:

That's the kids on our Dillon Beach weekend trip.

2. This week is over! My boss has been on her honeymoon for the last two weeks and although I enjoyed the wedding in Santa Cruz, work has been a bitch without her.

3. Yes, last night (well technically this morning) I was one of those crazed fans in line to get the last Harry Potter book! I am actually re-reading the series (for the third time) before I read the final book however.

4. The kids will be home next weekend. I do miss their smiling faces, their genuine hugs and the "I love you mommy's".

5. Movies. I have to admit, I'm addicted to Blockbuster on-line. And was sorley disappointed when I didn't get a movie in the mail today, but alas I also have On Demand! Watched "Woman Wanted" with Helen Hunt tonight. Okay, yea cried twice. Good movie!

6. Music. Music is the window to the soul.

You Know You're Living In 2007 When...

1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.

2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.

3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 5.

4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.

5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses.

6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.

7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.

8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't have the first 20 or years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.

10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.

11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )

12. You're reading this and nodding and laughing.

13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to send this message to.

14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.

15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on this list. And now you are laughing at yourself :-)

Movie Quotes

Favorite quotes from one of my favorite movies:

*Jules: The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

*[Vincent goes up to Butch at the bar]

Butch: Starin' at something, friend?
Vincent: I ain't your friend, palooka.
Butch: What did you say?
Vincent: I think you heard me just fine, punchy.

*Jules: I don't wanna hear about no motherfuckin' ifs. All I wanna hear from your ass is, You ain't got no problem, Jules. I'm on the motherfucker. Go back in there, chill them niggers out and wait for the calvary which should be coming directly.

Marsellus: You ain't got no problem, Jules. I'm on the motherfucker. Go back in there, chill them niggers out and wait for the Wolf who should be coming directly.

*Vincent: Bacon tastes gooood. Pork chops taste gooood.

*Jules: If my answers frighten you then you should cease asking scary questions.

*Jules: You sending the Wolf?
Marsellus: Oh, you feel better, motherfucker?
Jules: [relieved] Shit, negro, that's all you had to say.

Satisfied Saturday Six

Satisfied Saturday Six is about taking the time to focus on the good things. Post 5 things that made you smile during the week. It doesn't matter if it happened to you, in the news or to someone else. Just put aside the negative for a moment and share pleasure. Because happiness and smiles are precious and balance the world.

1. Pay Day! Got paid this week and it was a nice fat check with all of the overtime from my Houston, TX trip.

2. Went to the Farmer's Market in Angels Camp on Friday with the kids. Got some cherries (red and yellow) as well as some organic peaches, tangerines and plums. Wesley could eat nothing but fruit for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Last year the Farmer's Market was in a parking lot downtown in Angels, but this year it has gotten larger so they moved it to Murphy's Park. After I looked around the Market, we set out a blanket in the grass and I read my book while the kids played on the jungle gym.

3. Got off work an hour early on Friday, and got paid for it! They had to let us all go an hour later for a computer conversion and they paid the staff for the extra hour. Very nice!

4. Found the new Stephen King book "Lisey's Story" at the grocery store. I was actually already reading the book as I had found the hard back edition at the local Library. I don't particularly like reading hard back though, so I of course bought the paperback version at the grocery store and returned the library book. :}

5. Found out that the kids are going to Vegas to see daddy for the month of July. I am certainly going to miss them, but I could really use a break too.

6. Picked out the quilt pattern so that mom can quilt my piece for the show next month. I really like how it turned out and it's my first attempt at curved piecing.

Happy Birthday Johnny Depp

Of course you knew that I would be posting for Johnny Depp's birthday, didn't you.

Interesting facts:

Was named one of the 50 Most Beautiful People by People Magazine in 2001.

Appears in Tom Petty's 1991 music video "Into the Great Wide Open."

Johnny's two children with Vanessa Paradis have the same names of the two main characters in "Legend" (1985): Lily (b. 1999) and Jack (b.2002).

Received a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on 19 November 1999. Tim Burton and Martin Landau were guest speakers.

Purchased Bela Lugosi's Los Angeles home.

Co-owns a restaurant/club in Paris called Man Ray (named after avant-garde artist Mana Ray with Sean Penn and John MalkovichThe restaurant is located in a renovated theater and serves Tibetan cuisine.

Dropped out of high school at 16 to pursue a career as a musician.

As a child, he was allergic to chocolate.

His parents divorced when he was 15.

Born in Kentucky but moved to Florida at age 7.

He is the youngest of 4 children.

Owns a customised 1960's 650cc Triumph Bonneville motorcycle.

Johnny Depp quotes: "Anything I've done up till 27 May, 1999 was kind of an illusion, existing without living. My daughter, the birth of my daughter, gave me life."

"With any part you play, there is a certain amount of yourself in it. There has to be, otherwise it's just not acting. It's lying."

After being asked if he is a romantic: "Am I a romantic? I've seen 'Wuthering Heights' ten times. I'm a romantic."

"When kids hit 1 year old, it's like hanging out with a miniature drunk. You have to hold onto them. They bump into things. They laugh and cry. They urinate. They vomit."

On his daughter, Lily-Rose: "I see this amazing, beautiful, pure angel-thing wake up in the morning, and nothing can touch that. She is the only reason to wake up in the morning, the only reason to take a breath. Everything else is checkers."

There's nothing - you know - nothing else like music. Nothing that touches us on that, uh, that deep level. Music can open up so many emotions that we didn't know we had. It's the magical thing about musicals, you know, on the stage or on film or whatever. Love songs. They work so well because music touches us, emotionally, where words alone can't.

American Idol

Ok, time to confess... Hi, my name is Tisha, and I'm addicted to American Idol. I went out to dinner with mom and dad tonight, cause the kiddies are still in Texas and mom had this gift certificate to a great Mexican restaurant in the area. As we were eating our fish taco's and tamales, I asked, almost in a panic, "What time is American Idol on tonight?! We have to be home in time for that!" Did I just say that? Who was that?

I'll admit it; I got totally sucked in. I love to tune in twice a week and see what Ringling Brothers inspired outfit Paula is wearing this time. And of course I love Simon, in that British bad-boy sort of way that just makes me want to spank him. I do actually own one American Idol contestant CD by Chris Daughtry. I didn't buy it for myself, but mom got it for me last Christmas. It's actually really good!

This season of Idol is really pissing me off though. In a word: Senjaya. I mean get serious! My son calls him "that guy that looks like a girl." As in: "Mommy, did that guy that looks like a girl get voted off yet?" No honey, not yet. No thanks to Howard Stern and the Anti-American Idol campaign. If you haven't heard about this check it out: http://www.votefortheworst.com/ I actually like Stern and always have. But he's messing up My show! Actually, I think it's all pretty funny that Stern can still have that kind of influence on such a majorly funded show as American Idol. But then Stern is the self-proclaimed "King of all Media" as he is proving yet again.

Spring Break

I'm taking the kiddies to Sacramento airport tomorrow night as daddy is flying in to pick them up for Spring Break. Well, most of Spring Break anyway, because he couldn't get his shit together in time to have them for the entire week. He's flying in to Sacramento Monday night, where I'm meeting him at a hotel to drop off the kids. The three of them are going to spend the night (good luck with that!) and are flying to Texas on Tuesday morning, then flying back on Saturday. So really, they'll have about 4 days. Lovely.

And I could certainly use a break, if only for a couple of days. I have the quilt to finish, like yesterday, for the show in July. Mom reminds me again today that she already has the applications and we need to get them in as soon as possible, before spaces fill up, which of course requires dimensions and a photo. Kind of hard to do when the quilt is still in pieces on my machine. So that's my goal, to occupy my time this week with the kids gone. Finish the quilt!

I also rented two movies at Blockbuster yesterday~Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and Eragon.

Fab Friday 5

1. It snowed on Tuesday! Spring snow is awesome and we actually got 6 inches overnight. Although by today, it's already all melted.

2. I did my taxes this week. Generally not something that would be on my "fab" list, but I found out that I am getting back considerably more than I anticipated! Always a good thing!

3. First quarter 2007 is over! Yeah! Wrapping the quarter is always a bit stressful at work, but once again, it was accomplished. :}

4. Took the kiddies to pizza tonight. So fun to watch them run to the video games after I give them a couple of quarters.

5. Johnny Depp. I have no idea what he’s doing on my Fab Friday list, but as far as I’m concerned, he's should be on all of my top 5 lists!!!!!!!

Fab Friday 5

Alli posted a "Thirteen Thursday" this week, but I don't think I can make it to 13 tonight! :} I've seen the "Friday Five" in another online journal I keep and thought I'd try it. Start with small goals, right!?

Five things that made me smile this week:

1. There are a group of wild turkeys making the rounds in town and we woke up this morning to find two of them crossing our street and going through the neighbour's yard! Wesley and I even got to hear the "gobble, gobble." I had to check the calender to make sure it's wasn't November.

2. Looking forward to an all day crop tomorrow. With no kiddies! 10am to 10pm, complete with catered dinner.

3. Had a good appointment with Wesley's pediatrician this afternoon. He reminded me that it's not a sprint but a marathon. For a destination type person like me, who doesn't necessarily always enjoy the ride but is always looking for the goal, the outcome, that's not an easy thing. But it was a good appointment and I enjoyed talking with him today.

4. Carmel Mocha Frappuccino. Starbucks. Yum. Enough said.

5. Laken discovered that one of her little friends from Head Start just moved in two doors down from us!

Quirks

We all have our little idiosyncrasies. Some of us more than others. And yes, I have a few.

*I have to set out my clothes for the next day the night before.
I've always done this. In fact, I set out the kids clothes as well, because I am SO not a morning person. If I have to grab something out of the closet in the morning, I'm likely to be heading off to work in mismatched socks and a mini-skirt in the dead of winter.

*Shoes have to come off at the door.
The kids have this one down now. They know that the shoes go in the basket by the door and the jackets go on the hook. And this time of year, the gloves and hats go in the little basket next to the shoe basket.

*I have to wash my face every night before bed.
I've done this every since I was a teenager and heard that leaving make-up on your face overnight actually ages your skin 30 days for every night. Yikes!

*I can't stand being late.
If you're late, you better have a damn good reason!

*Turn off the light when you leave the room.
The 7 year old will actually get after the 4 year old now for not turning off the light after leaving the room. Even though to go into his room, he has to first turn on the hall light and then his bedroom light because he's afraid of the dark.

I Want That

Maybe my standards are too high, but I know what I want. I've always known what I want. I just don't know if it exists. He doesn't have to be rich and famous (although that never hurts, now does it). ;}

I've been on a Johnny Depp kick with renting movies lately. This week I have What's Eating Gilbert Grape and Finding Neverland. I'm not crazy about brown eyes. I never have been. The ex has brown eyes and yes, he's full of shit. But Johnny just seems to make it work somehow. I like that whole mysterious, eccentric, intelligent, fringe thing he has going. And he seems to always choose rolls that are similar in that they are outcast type characters who are dangerous, charming, humorous, charismatic, secretive and alluring. Oh, and sexy. Musn't forget that. Most definitely sexy.

And he's a great daddy.

That's all I want. All I'm really asking for.

No wonder I'm still single.
